This one is easily one of my favorites, but mainly because I'm a lousy sucker for comedies and romance. The whole mess of the book was so delicious that I had to read it in one sitting, laughing out loud, and generally making a disturbance of myself. I am unrepentant.
Marriage in fiction can be a wonderful thing, and while the actual marriage in question doesn't actually occur in this novel, the pertinent requisites were more than enough to amuse and have me on the floor.

While I enjoyed this book immensely, I wouldn't recommend it as an entree into the Vorkosigan series - I think you need to already know and love the characters.
It's not slow-moving, really - but not much happens. It's a romance/soap opera, more than the action-adventure that most of the series could be classified as.
The story is nearly wholly involved with Miles' bumbling attempts to woo the widow Ekaterin, and the social comedy/drama that follows upon that.

I remembered enjoying this book, but had forgotten many of the small details about the overall flow of the story. #12 was great! A nice blend of details of what had gone on before in t

This was a total romantic comedy, and I loved it. So many memorable scenes, and it was a great payoff to the first 11 books. I loved a lot of the quotes too (like the one below) - not comedic, but quite philosophical.

"The family economy evades calculation in the gross planetary product. It's the only deal I know where, when you give more than you get, you aren't bankrupted - but rather, vastly enriched.”

not my favorite of Bujold's books, I can't say I'm disappointed, it was a fun read in all, but many themes addressed in this book I couldn't agree with, probably me coming form a conservative environment reading about some really revolutionary ideas, I just felt uncomfortable most of the time, not sure whether to agree or disagree, and how much of it is me and my background and how much is it the book, a hard book to read indeed ...more
