There are several things going for this novel. First, A return to a much later version of Graff Station and the quaddies. Second, a return to Cetaganda. Third, a return of our favorite hermaphrodite. The only other odd novel out that should have made a return is Ethan of Athos, or at least the first batch of interesting kiddos from that planet. Other than these bits, it may not have been the best Miles book, but it had its moments. The action picked up near the end, but the pacing wasn't exactly ...more

Story focused more on criminal shenanigans than character/s development. I had forgotten about how excited Miles is about becoming a dad at the beginning of the book.

It's comfort food, really. There's nothing new in this book that hasn't been in a dozen other Vorskorigan books, but it's still written very well. it reads more like an episode of a TV series than a deep introspective piece of literature, but that's just fine. The character voices are handled well, and they feel fresh and alive.
The plot's a little slow at the beginning but picks up a breakneck speed at the end.
