I love the other three books in the series just fine, but I cannot stand books with the format of separate stories set in the same universe that never connects with each other. Its one of the major reasons I dislike World War Z. The only one that worked is Wild Cards. For Wild Cards it felt more like reading history.

This book consists of a bunch of smaller stories as each of the characters gives their back-story. The audio book uses different narrators for each character & some were better than others. The female character brought to mind for me the HBO series Crashbox! Weird! So, though technically good, I didn't love the all narration. I did very much enjoy the stories and the book as a whole. The novel follows seven strangers as they debark on a pilgrimage to the Time Tombs and the dreaded Shrike on the world of Hyperion. Hyperion is a fringe planet in post-Earth universe, which is divided into three factions: the ruling Hegemony (humans), the Ousters (humans) the TechnoCore (AI).

This was beautifully written from the perspective of multiple characters, with different stories to tell interwoven with the present.
I have to say, I love sci-fi books which use the science fiction as an interesting backdrop for some really intense character interaction and scenarios you just couldn't create in the present world. This book does it brilliantly.
