So I'm changing my final score on this novel from a solid 3 to a generous 4 stars, because the book was JUST THAT UNPREDICTABLE.

That's an odd thing to say as a re-read, no?

There's lots of places where the novel easily deserves a 5 star, just on reflection, alone, and since this came out nearly 30 years ago I'm not going to fuss too much over spoilers.

Exciting, mind-blowing, action-packed. Just brilliant.

This was so good! Never once during the 40 hour audiobook did get bored or wonder how much time was left. This had thrilling, heart pounding scenes, super creepy spine tingling scenes, gut wrenching scenes, touching scenes, and even humorous scenes. On top of that, there were so many unexpected twists and turns that I was always on my toes guessing what was going to happen next. This was my first Dan Simmons book and it certainly won’t be my last.
