What Members Thought

The circus arrives without warning.
First of all, let me tell you how amazing this world building and writing was in this book. I loved it so much. This is my first book about a circus, and it was amazing! I loved how eccentric and mysterious it all was.
With that being said, the first half was very slow for me and I struggled getting through it. I enjoyed the circus, but I just wanted it to get on with it! The whole synopsis about the challenge was very unimportant in the first 60% of the ...more

"The circus arrive without waring...no announcements precede it...it is simply there, when yesterday it was not."
It's been literally 10yrs since I visited the The Night Circus and honestly, I don't know why I waited so long. I remember after I finished it being utterly gutted that Morgenstern didn't have anything else for me to read, so when The Starless Sea finally dropped I thought YES!! Gotta reread.

You know when a book desperately wants to become a movie? That’s what this felt like.
I heard that this book is no plot, just vibes, and I think that is an accurate portrayal. The thing is I NEED plot. Without it, I feel entirely bored and like I was white-knuckling my way through 500 pages of descriptions. I understand why people loved the flowery prose, but this was just not my thing.

I can see why my mother couldn’t finish it. It is a slowly plodding on storyline often with little change from one chapter to another, but as someone who knows what it’s like to be filled with wonder and imagination, of things people can’t possibly imagine or begin to understand, I loved it. I believe that’s how most people will feel after reading this. They’ll either get it or they won’t.
