3 stars. I don’t know what the hell I just read but it was absolutely fascinating. This was extremely bizarre and messed up but I liked it. It was so strange. It’s not a book that I can sum up even if I tried and I honestly didn’t know what to expect but I think that’s for the best. Going into this with no pretense was great and I recommend doing it that way. It’s dark, weird, and completely fucked up but it was a fun read. I kept trying to decipher what was literal and what was metaphor. Turns out it’s all a blur in this fever dream fueled fairytale.

The writing was visceral, I could almost taste it. I was thrilled by the not-knowing and yet the deep seated understanding. This book was a social commentary on the cult like exclusivity of academia while also being a modern day fairytale with the moral “be careful what you wish for”.

I don't know. Like so many other reviews here I don't know. I'm not sure if I liked this or hated it. I get that I was reading a damn near satire addressing writing workshops and high brow art schools and even the relationships between women, with undertones that were queer in places and various reflections on desire and want and anger and rage and all kinds of emotion and so on.
