I loved this book it was different from any book I have ever read I loved every aspect of it this book puts Circe in a much better light than anything I have ever read. I loved the characters so much especially Circe there is so much more to her in this book than in any of the myths its make her way more interesting to read about. This was a frustrating read for me. Circe easily gained my compassion early on at how she was treated by EVERYONE! No one gave two sh*ts about her and made sure she knew it. But time after time (really hundreds and hundreds of years) she still craves their love , even when it’s been more than clear they will never give it. I quickly went from being on her side to wanting to smack her upside the head for not thinking she deserved better. (view spoiler) This was a frustrating read for me. (view spoiler) I think I went into this expecting the same type of read I felt a Song of Achilles was. Powerful, moving and bittersweet to the very end but not lacking so much hope like this book. Circe literally never catches a break but also rarely fights for herself or stands up to her oppression. It really isn’t until (view spoiler) that she even showed any promise of growing a backbone. Yet even with all this strife occurring I could not stop reading, I was beyond engaged in where this was all going. I think this is why the ending has me so conflicted and kind of angry. Sure she had visions of a great future but I felt it didn’t end concretely enough for me. Did her end actually go as planned, as the visions showed? Or did life once again do her no favors and work against her? Really I have to wonder if she wasn’t cursed because her life was just sad. Because of that, I want so hard to believe her visions came true and she got a HEA. But really I feel with it being left hanging as it was I can’t make my pessimistic side believe in it and have hope 😢 Knowing there was still a chance fate would F*ck her over as they continually did I wanted to know for sure or not if her Spell worked. ...more

I find Greek Mythology fascinating and with the way Madeline Miller writes, how could I not fall in love with this book? It was purely enchanting and magical. I have had this book on my shelves for quite some time now and I knew after reading The Song of Achilles, this one would end up being another favorite. So I've waited and waited until the moment I would want to savor it. I'm happy to say Circe did not disappoint. And just like The Song of Achilles, Circe made me tear up at times. I loved e ...more

Holy molly I forgot how much I loved to read Greek mythology. Reading this Miller will forcefully put that love back in your heart, and it shall stay forever. This book was a wonderful story that drawn you in and wants to make you reread the Odyessy again and all Greek mythology that you could devour. I cannot wait to read Miller's first book now and be charmed again by her storytelling weaving. ...more

I am glad that I listened to this book, as the performance was very strong. I think the idea of retelling Circe's story from her own perspective was a great way to provide an overview of may Greek myths through Circe's eyes. However, I wish Miller had chosen a more interesting character as her storyteller. Unfortunately, Circe spent the majority of this book trapped on her island waiting for characters to come to her.
