3.5 stars. I can see that this is a good story, but I couldn’t really get into it. I liked the setting and magic and the audio was fantastic. The last quarter of the book was excellent and earned the extra half a star!

4 stars. This book is fantastic. I honestly wasn't expecting anything less than amazing from the synopsis and that's exactly what I got and then some.

I have fallen out of love with the YA genre and I haven't read one where I loved it this much and was so completely invested in it and all of it's characters in a while. Feels like forever honestly. But this book, man, this book was a breath of fresh air. I was hooked from the very beginning and the closer I got to the end the more I was trying to

The fantasy system (based on african mythology) in this book is remarkable and very refreshing. It has been a long time since a fantasy book got me intrigued like this one. Based on this I’m inclinef to rate it 4 to 5 stars. While most of the story is enjoyable, sadly the love stories were a bit forced and they annoy more than they help the story. Also the characters were not allways consistent where they should have been.
I hope the next part in this series will remedy the shortcomings so that

I REALLY enjoyed this read! From the setting description, character buildup and development to the action-packed plot, I enjoyed this story and once I got into it, I didn’t want it to end. I would give this 4.5 stars for the satisfying plot and three-dimensional characters. I also appreciate the political themes (though I didn’t realize it until much later). I can’t wait for the next installment of this series.

This fantasy by Tomi Adeyemi is simply amazing! No way I can review this book and do it justice! It's told from 3 different POV's: Zelie, Amari, Inan. I felt for Zel because of how she felt like she was always disappointing her family and that's a horrible place to be emotionally. She has a really good relationship with her brother, Tzain, and I love that. I love Amari for her courage and bravery, especially after such tragedy she experienced. I had the hardest time with Inan but I had to admire ...more

I really liked this book. I listened to the audiobook and the narrator was pretty good. I liked her accent and it was nice knowing how some of the names were pronounced. I would've liked the different characters to have more distinct voices so I could tell them apart. But overall I recommend the audio for sure.
I enjoyed the magic part of it a lot. I really like when characters have all kinds of different powers and the world building was great. It was awesome seeing a different culture and thei
