What Members Thought

I have just finished this book for the third or fourth time, and have read all the books in the series, including the 8th one, at least twice. Obviously, I like it. However, it has its share of problems, enough to knock off a star. Many of the issues can be found in other reviews. However, one problem I haven't seen highlighted in other reviews is the historical (in)accuracy.
The beginning of this book has always bothered me. So, so much research went into this book and series about 18th-century ...more

Freaking finally!
So I was invested in the book for maybe the first 20% or so, then I just didn't care. It was way too long, scenes just dragged on and on with nothing major happening. The same descriptions were used over and over and over...I KNOW WHAT JAMIE LOOKS LIKE. Also, the same plot lines were reused (how many times do I have to read about Claire almost getting raped?).
The research and the history were well done and added some authenticity to the story but literally nothing happened excep ...more

TL-DR
This book was way more literary and well-written than I thought it would be. I really like claire as a main character. I thought she was really smart and not-annoying and did a good job of taking care of herself.
However, after watching the Vaginal Fantasy discussion on the book and then reading the rest of the premise, I decided that the book is really just too long and not interesting enough for me to finish, but mostly, just I didn't want to read all the angst and rapey stuff that happens ...more

I had a hard time getting into this story the first time around. Then I started it in a buddy read and really gave myself over to it and am surprised how much I enjoyed it.
Claire sometimes got on my nerves, but she ended up being a strong and fiercely loyal woman, who epitomizes the phrase "Stand by your man". Jamie, although younger than Claire is a man. He had to grow up fast (this is a different time after all). They love one another with a passion that knows no bounds. They endure impossibl ...more

Not sure whether this should be under fantasy genre!! Basically author wanted to write a romantic novel under different circumstances which she created by sending Claire, from 1900s to 1700s... Who was already married to Frank and again got forced marriage with Jamie. On top of everything, it's painfully boring to read.
Really wasted my time by reading this. ...more

*4.5 stars* This would have been a total five star book if it had not been for the pacing issues at the end of the novel. Other than that I absolutely LOVED the novel and I cannot wait to see where Gabaldon takes Jamie & Claire's adventures/ love story!
