What Members Thought

Rosaline (Rosaline's Rolls & Scrolls)
So do you know those annoyingly perfect looking YA novels with shiny gorgeous covers that spring up like mushrooms overnight and sneakily become all you can see on your feed? They are suddenly all anybody can read, review, or talk about. They overwhelm your senses and take over your life. And then you start to think to yourself, what am I missing?

Sorcery of Thorns is the overwhelming mushroom of July '19, and like the nosy little bookish brat that I am, I need to have it and find out what a

I really liked the magic system in Sorcery of Thorns. Each sorcerer draws on their power by making deals with demons they summon through a pentagram. Nathaniel, for example, bargained away 20 years of his life to draw on his demon Silas's power.

Elisabeth has been raised to stay away from sorcery and demonic powers. She grew up in one of the great libraries where grimoires, books that were created by sorcerers through sacrifices, are prevented from escaping with iron bars and salt rounds. If they

I don't know what my expectations for this book were, but they were fully exceeded.

I won't bother trying to summarize the plot in this review, because you can read the synopsis for that. What I will say is that Margaret Rogerson took the battle between good an evil to a whole different level and actually made me feel like this whimsical fantasy had a bit of reality mixed into it. Our main character starts out having been raised to believe that her world is a certain way only to find out through

I liked it a lot! I started liking it right away because it reminded me a bit of A Discovery of Witches which I read in January and also gave 5 stars. The girl who loves old books, sorcery, demons, a brooding love interest. But that’s all they really had in common. The rest was much different. I liked the pacing, I liked the characters and character development, some things I expected to happen but didn’t mind and some things surprised me. A great read and would definitely read more in this univ ...more

I loved reading this different take on magic. I love being able to see the main character rise um and become the strong women she’s meant to be with.
I definitely wish this wasn’t a stand alone cause I’ll miss these characters dearly but I’m excited to try other books written by this author.
