It took me a seriously long time to make that spreadsheet. Lol. It's pretty self explanatory though. If you have any questions about any of it just let me know. :D

I've been thinking a bit about strategy, so tell me what y'all think of this: since both categories for a clue need to be filled before we can guess that S,W, or P, we should try to fill in both at once. So like, plan books based on what categories other people are filling in, or try to fill in the second spot of a category before placing that book somewhere else.

I just feel like this is going to take some serious team communication, lol.

Sounds like a good plan to me

Dr. Andy | 10329 comments I will really try to write reviews as often as possible. I always end up procrastinating on that front haha

Saige, I think you are right about the communication.

I'm ok with pre-claiming the categories, but I think if you find out a book can fill a more difficult spot while reading it, we should switch it to that tougher category. For example, it is easy to fit the MPG categories, but if my book ends up having one of the in-text categories or my character does one of the actions required in a category, I will move it there instead. Otherwise, some of those categories go unfilled for the longest time. My Scavenger Hunt team figured this out at the end of round one and the other rounds went more smoothly and required a lot less moving things around (not that that is an option with this challenge).

I highlighted little boxes next to the categories that I think will be harder, most can't be filled just by looking at the cover or synopsis for a book. Yellow were things that would come up while reading, Orange are just categories I've found tough to fill in the past - although I don't think I've ever read a book with a sandwich on the cover. LOL. And I think I've exhausted all the decent mermaid books.

I know this doesn't address your concern about completing both categories for a clue, but I think if we all use our best discretion to fill the best category at the time of posting, things will fill in and we will have more chances to guess the right clue. We can't move things around after posting, so taking our time might be the best. IDK, what do you think? I am open to whatever you guys think is best.

message 19: by Felicia (new)

Felicia | 15003 comments Jennifer, you can move books in this challenge. It just must be done so before I do scores. As long as you reply to your original comment and say what you're moving it to I will make sure to mark the correct category off.

You will also have to move books when I say. And that sounds totally like "my way or the highway" type of stuff. Lol. But it's true. If y'all have five posts on your review thread and the first covers the second category needed for the suspect in your conclusion, I will then go to your chat thread to let y'all know you need to pick new categories for the remaining four books if they are guessing categories for suspects. If they are guessing categories for the weapon or place then you won't switch those ones. Does that make sense?

I totally agree (and the SS color coding is giving me life btw). If we get the difficult ones out of the way asap, it'll be a lot easier to match up the rest, if we even end up needing them. I'll try to pick books for the harder categories first and then try to fill in the easier stuff.

Erica Paré | 2080 comments If we have books that you have tagged as orange should we change it maybe to a green? Since we are good to go for that category? Ive been looking through and have some books that will cover the orange ones

God bless you if you have some of the orange ones, Erica! - just feel free to claim those. No need to change colors, when you put your name in the member column, it will turn your special color anyway.

message 24: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 3006 comments We should probably ask ourselves - do we only want to claim spots ahead of time if we are currently reading the book or are going to read it within a week? It might stink if someone claims a spot for a BR they have at the end of the month.

On that note, if I claim a spot and you have finished a book for that category before I do - feel free to take my spot. I am decently creative at finding other spots for my books and I'd rather the team get points than me individually.

message 25: by Erica (new)

Erica Paré | 2080 comments Ok sounds good. I have i think 3 orange spot ones already waiting and ready to read come the 1st

message 26: by Dr. Andy (new)

Dr. Andy | 10329 comments I’ll probably claim by week for stuff since I’m
Notorious at avoiding writing reviews until the very last second. I’m usually on at least once a day but I look at my reviews and sigh and then run away to read more 😂😂

I’m totally okay with people moving my stuff as long as you let me know! And I think all these points you and Saige made were perfect!

message 27: by Felicia (new)

Felicia | 15003 comments Adding TheYALibrarian to the team guys! :D

message 28: by Felicia (new)

Felicia | 15003 comments Just so everyone is aware, score posts are going to look a little different this time around. There is going to be two extra columns in the scores post. One will be to keep track of the bonus points you'll receive as an individual. The other column will be keeping track of the amount of books a member reads. This column in no way effects your scores. It is so I can make sure members are reading the amount of books that they said they would when signing up.

Gotcha! I added your name to the teams SS. So under the member column you can type in "TheYALibrarian" and it'll change to your color. I didn't shorten it or anything.

message 32: by Ella (new)

Ella Hachee That all sounds good. I’m a big mood reader so I probably won’t claim spots too far in advance but I’ll try and update the ss while I’m reading a book. I’m also fine if someone wants to use my spot if they already have a book to put in it as long as you give me a heads up. ☺️

I put the first book I'm reading in July into the spreadsheet, but the rest I won't put in yet because I want to try and fill in spots so we can guess stuff. I think this challenge will require more playing it by ear than some other ones we've done.

Erica Paré | 2080 comments Just have a quick question I figured I would ask here first in case anyone knows. So I finished 1 book and reading a 2nd now, they are both for Weapons, Pencil. So when im done both and put in my review do I have to do something special to guess if thats the weapon? or is it automatically told since we finished both?

It's auto told. In your words. Lol. I have my own tracking SS that I will keep track of which subcategories you guys use. Since you're going to be posting both subcategories for one category at the same time you will find out if that category is a part of your conclusion. If it is you don't need to read for weapons anymore. But if it is not then you would continue reading subcategories for weapons.

I'm guessing normally one person will not reading for both subcategories at the exact same time. Normally it will be two different team members. If one subcategory is posted today and the other subcategory is posted five days from now you will find out five days from now if that category is a part of your conclusion.
