Maybe even 4.5 stars. There are many irritating things about this book and the main character and normally I would be irritated. But this book hit me right at a time when real life isn’t going that well and I had a need for a book like this. In that context I actually really enjoyed it! I liked Calaena and her friends and enjoyed learning about the world the story is set in. It took me several years to finally pick this book up but I’m glad I did. I think I prefer Celaena to Feyra!

July 2025 reread, with another promise that I will continue and finish this series... (Where have I heard that before...?) Warning - this isn't a review, just a mess of thoughts... sorry about that.

Only this time... I think I'm finally getting what all the fuss is about! It's only taken... *checks*... oh my goodness, SIX years since I first read this book - but I finally 'get' Celaena and don't find her intensely irritating! A huge change for me was reading the prequel novellas in The Assassin's

To zní slibně! A co jsem dostala? Celaena je sice nájemný zabiják, což je nám taky předhazováno při každé příležitosti (v podsta ...more

4 stars, maybe 4,5 stars.
I wanted to start the series for a while, but never had the time to begin. Thanks to a BR, I finally kicked off with the first book!
This book belongs to the good Young Adult fiction, and that is YA for any age. It wasn't complicated written, but well enough to keep my attention going. There was an almost perfect balance between the suspence and the romance. Although, but that's my personal opinion, the romance was a bit annoying.
As Celaena is the most dangerous assasin i

I love strong female protagonists! Celaena was such a bad ass character, I love how strong she was, along with a couple other strong women, Elena and Nehemia. It was a little slow on the middle, but interesting and the action scenes were page turners. I'm definitely excited to read the next book! ...more
