A book I have long wanted to read. Published in 1965, Truman Capote wrote of the true brutal murders of four members the Clutter family, Herbert, Bonnie, Nancy, and Kenyon, in Holcomb, Kansas by Richard Hickock and Perry Smith on November 15, 1959. A thought provoking, intriguing documentary account.
A non-fiction written with many of the positive attributes often only found in fiction: excellent character building and a casual easy-reading flow. You are really left feeling as though you know and understand, at least to some degree, each individual involved, as well as the whole town of Holcomb,KS. Capote did a wonderful job in this book. It's a true crime book. In which Capote was captivated by the news of the Clutter family who were murdered. Capote, takes us through the background of the family, the murderers (Hickock and Smith) background, the murder of the family, how Hickock and Smith went to Mexico, then all about the trial, and execution. It is very involved and clear there was a lot of work done on the research.
