After reading a few disappointing examples of late 19th/early 20th century genre fiction I wasn't sure if I was going to like the daddy of genre fiction but I actually did. I still don't think that this type of book is really for me but I can appreciate how this book influenced so many other books not only vampire or horror books but other genre books with the use of diary and letter entries, multiple perspectives and a 'five man band' to name but a few.

I had just been to the ballet of Dracula and wanted to read the book! Reading a classic from the 1800’s was great! Everyone should read the classics!

This classic has been on my “to read” for so long. I love the rich prose from the era. I believe this was published in 1895. It was great to read how our Vampire novels have evolved so much, that we often find the undead glamorous. Dracula was not glamorous at all, and he was scary. My dog jumped and barked as I was reading and the wind was howling and I’m not going to lie, I screamed “shit” and got up and locked the doors.
It was so realistic as you are basically reading journals and telegrams.
