What Members Thought

One of my book clubs is reading this right now. I read it a few years ago and was not yet ready for a re-read. And, honestly, since I didn't care for it much, I am not sure that I ever will.

In looking at other reviews and comments made, it appears like people generally enjoy this book. From what I remember of it, that is a little hard for me to understand. But, I am certainly glad that people have enjoyed it more than I did. Maybe I read a different book?

What a strange and sordid and meandering affair this book be - as if a demonic creature of the depth twer made up of nothing but connected tales of separate interest, yet all would be allowed to have their full say before the demonic beast and all who laid eyes upon it were once more slowly, oh so very slowly, sunk to the darkest of chasms beneath the surface - just as had been prophesied and foreshadowed in every conceivable fashion.

I really should have dnf'd this book. I knew a few hours into this 25 hour audiobook that this wasn't for me but I persevered because of its status as a classic and my desire to get immersed in a long book. The positive aspects of the book were the sea setting which was very vivid and some of the colourful characters (although even they overstayed their welcome).
