I have read this twice. I believe the last time was in 2000 when I got a copy for my son and then found out he has his own copy.

THIS is definitely a book that I need to re-read. I read it a long time ago and I really did enjoy it. The humour is exactly my style- dry and sarcastic- but I did find the style of the narrative hard to follow at times. There is constant jumping between characters and time and place. I found there to be no consistency that allowed me to work out the timeline of the story, I was quite confused a lot of the time. Despite this I liked the book. Okay, now that I've read it all, plus all of the bonus material, I feel ready to read the novel ;-).

More seriously, had I gone in to the first reading, knowing the text played with timelines, ie jumped around randomly, and circled certain events more than once, and knowing the chapters were best digested one by one, sort of periodically, I'd have saved some initial confusion that set in at around the 25% done mark.

Set aside the casual misogyny, too.

The book is simply incredible. I want to read
