What Members Thought

This has to be one of the best and most complete books I have ever read. Each element - plot, characters, twists, suspense, climax - all of it, perfect! If I had one criticism, it might be a slightly slow start, but with the awesome payoff, that is hardly worth mentioning.

I liked this a lot but not as much as My Cousin Rachel which was more suspenseful from beginning to end. In both of these books, I knew the main general part of what was going to happen, but the suspense of the characters finding out was the fun part. I'm a fan of Du Maurier's writing and may even try The Birds some day (even though that creeps me out!). More to come later maybe.

Awful. I really tried to finish this but I just couldn't. The main character was so irritating, I couldn't bear her any more.

This was so good! One of those rare books where I'm in the position where I want to devour it but also to slow down so that it doesn't end. The setting, the characters, the plot. Going into any specifics would do this novel a disservice so I will merely gush!
My first du Maurier, certainly not my last. ...more
