This has to be one of the best and most complete books I have ever read. Each element - plot, characters, twists, suspense, climax - all of it, perfect! If I had one criticism, it might be a slightly slow start, but with the awesome payoff, that is hardly worth mentioning.

I liked this a lot but not as much as My Cousin Rachel which was more suspenseful from beginning to end. In both of these books, I knew the main general part of what was going to happen, but the suspense of the characters finding out was the fun part. I'm a fan of Du Maurier's writing and may even try The Birds some day (even though that creeps me out!). More to come later maybe. ...more

This was so good! One of those rare books where I'm in the position where I want to devour it but also to slow down so that it doesn't end. The setting, the characters, the plot. Going into any specifics would do this novel a disservice so I will merely gush!
