How have I never read this book? It was so good full of great writing, lots of suspense, a great plot, very interesting characters, and lots of suspense and twists. From the very opening lines, I was hooked. While it was definitely a slow burn, the slowly developing story really created a haunting atmosphere of the beautiful Manderley House. You could feel the tension as Mrs. De Winter imagines all these thoughts and conversations happening around her about how much she doesn't measure up to Reb ...more

I loved this book. From the beginning. The unnamed narrator is slightly annoying with her mousiness & timidness, but she ultimately grows up & isn't so bad. I found this book to be almost a mirrored version of Jane Eyre. Verrrry similar themes, elements, plots etc. I didn't mind!! Love them both. ...more

I liked this a lot but not as much as My Cousin Rachel which was more suspenseful from beginning to end. In both of these books, I knew the main general part of what was going to happen, but the suspense of the characters finding out was the fun part. I'm a fan of Du Maurier's writing and may even try The Birds some day (even though that creeps me out!). More to come later maybe. ...more
