Shelves: science-fiction, fantasy, owned, sf-masterworks

Dune is one of those books that just about every fantasy/sci-fi enthusiast has read. It has been on my to-read list for ages but given its sheer length and the mountain of books I have, I never seemed to get to it. With the release of the 2021 film, I finally decided it was time to see what it was all about. I am not sure what my expectations were here. While I love Tolkien, and have thoroughly enjoyed C.S. Lewis, Asimov and Bradbury, I wouldn't necessarily consider myself a sci-fi reader. I muc ...more

This one is difficult because I wanted to LOVE this book. I saw the 1984 movie starring Kyle MacLachlan back in the day (saw it when it came out in 1984...lol). Trust me, that movie was based 'loosely' on the book. And maybe that's why I was a bit disappointed; I already had a preconceived idea of the story and that distracted me from delving into the ACTUAL story. The 1984 movie, is SO different (like crazy, weird different), but ironically seemed to flow better than the original book.
