The middle book of the Millennium series, The Girl Who Played with Fire breaks away from the mystery genre of its predecessor and turns into a thriller of dramatic proportions - all while setting the stage for what is sure to be a climatic ending of the series, The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest.

I was really looking forward to reading this after the first one. With the first one, I had been told to hang in for the first 50 pages or so, and I did. After that is swung along nicely. Not so with the Fire book. I found it pretty heavy going and although was cross by the end. Too much we already knew and if we hadn't read the first book I don\t think we needed to know, at least not so much. In my opinion, it needed a heavy edit.

I never would have finished this if it wasn't for the brilliant narration of Simon Vance. So much detail, so much set up and almost no pay off. This clearly is part one of a two part story. Don't expect any kind of solution or closure or anything that resembles the end of a story arc. However, if you loved the main characters of the first book, you'll love them even more this time around, because they are the same people, multiplied by a factor of 2.

I finished this pretty quickly and it was so much better than the first one. Being cooped up in the house with Blomqvist was so annoying to me in The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. This one allowed for greater contact with Lisbeth and how she worked as well as exploring her relationships, it was much more enjoyable. And to think I wasn't even going to read this.. lol.
