I love Sarah Waters. But Affinity just can't measure up to The Night Watch. It's a good Gothic story, with a sensitive, brooding protagonist, a dark, dank prison, and a luminous character to shine among the grimness. But I didn't get as breathlessly caught up in these characters the way I have with so many of Waters's others, and the denouement didn't have half the impact of that in It's a good read, but she's written better.

A very strange ghost story that made me all jumpy and nervous while reading. I was kind of disappointed with the ending (you know how you Want things to turn out) but then it wasn't my story to tell. The writing style was lovely and I will definately be reading more of her other books.

Another twisty-turny evil little book. Everyone gets double- and triple-crossed in Waters' stories, including the reader! But don't worry, you'll enjoy it.
