Oh, Larry Kramer! What does one even say about this book?
This book has lots of raunchy, late-70s-Manhattan, indiscriminate fucking and a coked-up pase. It can be erotic. It can also be really frightening given how we know what the next chapter in the story is. Underneath it all is the usual existential crisis of people who are a little too self-aware.
I'm not sure I'd want to be friends with Larry Kramer (though I'd love to pick his brain) but this book is ballsy.

This is one of my all-time favorite books. It's like this story took the classical hero's journey and applied it to a very specific time and place and people, in a context where no one expected a hero.
The climax with the double-fisting is so amazing for so many reasons.
