This book is like seeing a random soap opera episode.
Some people talk to some other people. There's a lot of bickering going on. Some crossing and double crossing. Plenty of posturing and hinting and fighting and name dropping but you don't really know who's who and what the plot is and why anyone does or says what they do. All ending in an underwhelming cliff-hanger and you wondering why the show is called what it's called, when there is not one character who is in any way bold or ...more

Well written...and mostly exiting...but not much really going on in the plot. Was a bit surprised when the book ended, since i felt not much of a story arch had really happened. But the grip of seeing the story through the eyes of the young scribe was a god one and the Captain is an interesting figure, even if not much of the secondary characters gets fleshed out.

This is a weird book. I didn't like the fact that this book holds the record of containing the most talkative characters in history of fiction and I'm not talking about monologues but lengthy and extremely wordy exchanges between people. Even the guy being tortured has a scroll of words under his tongue. It all made me so angry and bored. I sure skipped lots of pages but somehow I was not tempted to put this book down.
