There are few lines in literature as amazing as "Gregor Samson woke up as a roach", but then there are few writers as absurd and powerful as Franz Kafka. This classic story - allegorical, of course - is stunningly well-written and despite being fantasy, we can truly picture Gregor's transformation and feel his horror as his disappearance as an individual in society. One of the most enigmatic books of the early 20th century and and absolute must read.

The Metamorphosis by Kafka is one of these books that I always heard about but that I had never read. I knew more or less the starting o the story: a man wakes up one morning transformed into a horrible insect, but sincerely, when I start reading it I discovered a much more deep and rich story. I think that the best word to describe the sensation I felt during its reading is UNCOMFORTABLE. What a sad but beautifully told story. There are a lot of themes here, including anti-capitalism and metaphorical depictions of depression. Despite my phobia of insects (not all insects but enough), I just wanted to hug Gregor. There were a few passages that gut punched me and the melancholy weaves through the story like fog.
