A pessimistic ,dark and depressing story You are Haunted through out the novel by feelings of
Anger, upset and pity The shocking cruelties and oppressions,Of a totalitarian government.
And its terrifying possibilities The emptiness of the evil party ,That rules with an iron hand
and their lust for power....
the mind control and brain washing , cruelty and brutality could sentence people to disgrace, torture or death ....
a climate of fear ,violence and control is was everywhere.

This is a must read for any leaders who are thinking of turning their countries into totalitarian states. But the rest of you riffraff should probably read it too.
So damned important that we're ignoring its lessons even today.

This is a great, moving book that I think everybody should read at least once in their lives! It's a compelling, thought-provoking novel, where even your thoughts are not your own. An amazing example of what could happen to our society.

In a way this book is one long essay. There are speeches, excerpts of fictional books and monologues aplenty.
As a story there's not much to it. It's sort of like a short story or novella stretched out by the essay-parts.
However, the ideas are impressive given its time and the plot, though simple, holds waters.
I had no problem finishing it and found many of the ideas interesting, even the ones I disagreed with. ...more
