This might have been the audiobook, but there were several scene jumps that weren't well transitioned.
The time traveling is flawed. It's hard to build a world with time travel, but it can be done (maybe). There are supposedly "present" selves, and they can't permanently affect people's "past" selves, but then there are specific exceptions, and then there's no clear way to determine which is someone's "present" self and why.
