Had to get half way so that I could get into it but overall aspects of this book really surprised me like the fae. I wouldn't say this book lives up to the hype but it is a great read. I'm planning on reading the next two books soon and everyone says that this series gets better with each book. There was a lot of set up in this instalment and I'm excited to see where the series goes.

This book was absolutely amazing. Every piece of it had me wanting to figure out what was going on inside the castle.

Celaena is such a kickass character, and I love some of her remarks. Dorian is so sweet towards her throughout this. Chaol is great! I don't know who I actually liked more throughout this book. I can't wait to read Crown of Midnight.

What can I say? I'm a sucker for a good fantasy read! This book takes place in a renaissance-ish type of time period. There are kings, queens, knights, guards, and, of course, assassins! This book has actually lived up to the hype I've been hearing on Youtube and Facebook. I was aimlessly and undoubtedly in love with this book! Turned On

Let's talk about the characters: Sarah J. Maas probably establishes the best character development I have ever seen in a book. Her characters are surprisingly so real and at times, I could swear that Celaena was just my best friend at school. That's one thing I look forward to reading about in the rest of this series. Her male characters were even more phenomenal! At first I was leaning towards Dorian as my preferred swoon, but as I read the end I was so looking forward to the relationship of Celaena and Chaol in books two and three. You really sort of feel connected with all the male characters in the book, and it's kind of like you're the one falling in love. Gosh, constant rants of a teenage fangirl :P

So we enter the world of Celaena Sardothien, a captured criminal of Endovier who is now just about willing to do anything to gain her freedom, even if it means competing in the King's competition to find a new champion. Celaena doesn't really know what she's getting herself into, but she's about to find out. With the help of the crowned prince, Dorian and the Captain of the Guard, Chaol, she might just be able to make it out alive and perhaps fall in love.

If you love assassins, fairies, and dark magic, you'll definitely enjoy reading this book. I really enjoyed how the author gave so much power to Celaena and portrayed her as an assassin, as we don't see much of that these days. She had the perfect amount of spunk and that sassy attitude that didn't make her too annoying. If you guys have ever read The Mara Dyer series, she was somewhat comparable to Mara.

If I'm not mistaken, this book was based entirely upon Maas' own world, as in she built the world herself in the story from beginning to end. The plot line was consistent, ya know? Like we didn't just have random assassins dropping like flies, leading us up to the final two competitors who would duel to be the King's Champion.

A perfect fantasy read to consume your time during any break or weekend! I mean, every time I put the book down to eat or sleep I was desperate to pick it back up! I will definitely be back for another review on the second book, which I've heard is far more action-packed and interesting. And I feel like Maas' writing is more sophisticated than most of the authors on the market. It's unique, and I guess you could say that it better appeals to a YA fangirl's nature.

I wasn't sure whether I would like this book, because I usually struggle with this kind of fantasy book, but I pushed myself to read it anyway. That being said, I absolutely adored it. The world building was brilliant, the main character was amazingly strong, witty and sweet all at the same time. I couldn't get over how much I loved and hated so many of the characters. And Chaol *_* <3
Even if you're not sure about picking up this book, do it, it's so worth it. ...more

I really want to give this book 5 stars, because it was SO ENJOYABLE to read! There were so many amazing things about it. I knocked off the star because I found the "mysteries" throughout the book to be very predictable. This was such an amazing story though, with so many complex, overlapping story arcs. It was a joy to read, and by the time I was halfway through I couldn't put it down! Recommended to everyone! ...more
