I was hesitant to pick up this book. If you don't know, I have a love/hate relationship with Sarah J Maas books as I DNF'd Heir of Fire the third book in her other series, Throne of Glass.

SJM's writing is great and keeps me addicted to the book. However, I do think that she "takes inspiration" from other books, or some scenes are just very similar to other popular book series.

The moment I finished this beautiful enchanting story, I cried happy tears. This book absolutely took my breath away. I think I have to put this in my top favorite books of all time. My favorite book Sarah J Maas has written. I think this is the perfect retelling. Everything was very light, you could only really tell if you knew Beauty and The Beast by heart. I absolutely loved this book! I have not read Sarah J. Maas' Throne of Glass series, so I went into A Court of Thorns and Roses not knowing what to expect. Upon finishing, I found that I loved her writing and her storytelling. It took me a while to read this book because I kept getting distracted, but I also wanted to pace myself through the beauty of her descriptions and the loveliness that is the story of Beauty and the Beast.

Okay so I have no idea where to start with this one. Maybe a good place would be that I did get spoiled. And that's important. I was getting impatient and with me, that's a sign that a book hasn't really GOT me, ya know?

It took me absolutely AGEES to get through the first half of the book, cause in my opinion, the pacing was a bit patchy and too slow. Like I'm okay with slow-paced books as long as SOMETHING is happening, but there just wasn't enough for me in the first half so that's *4.5 stars*

That, and the fact that I'm currently studying for my A2 exams and it's stressing me out to hell and back so I was struggling to find time (mostly energy tbh) to read for pleasure.

ANYWAY. Once I got past my reading slump wall which sucked and stopped me from reading this in the first place, this book was enthralling, different, exciting and sexy. It just has this vibe of mystery and I love that in a book, when everything isn't revealed straight away you know?

I've just started Me Before You but I think I'm gonna have to go out and buy A Court of Mist and Fury right now cause I can't deal with not knowing what goes down next!!!

I obviously loved Tamlin right off the bat, but when Feyre meets Rhysand for the first time I knew he was gonna be important. Just knew it. I had this feeling that he was gonna come back to haunt us (so to speak). And indeed he has. Earlier today after finishing it in one sitting pretty much after the 60% mark, I watched polandbananasbooks' review and I agree completely on her perspective of this whole Tamlin vs. Rhysand being reminiscent of Stefan vs. Damon (Vampire Diaries, for those that don't know) and I can't shake the fact that I know the dark ones always draw me in. So I may or may not be silently praying that Rhysand has a character arc and changes so Feyre doesn't resent him so much.

To be honest there's too many details and awesomeness for me to go into in depth but all you need to know is that despite my reading slump and spoilers (I only have myself to blame) that screwed this book up for me a little bit, I've always enjoyed fairy tale re-tellings and this didn't disappoint. Can't wait to read the next installment, and this has also got me really excited for reading the Throne of Glass series when I finally get around to it, I like Maas' writing style.

*would be 5/5 stars without spoilers and my issue with the pacing*

I'm always curious about hyped-up books, but I usually wait a while, so I don't have enormous unrealistic expectations.
Well, the hype is a constant with Sarah J. Maas and her series, so I couldn't wait any longer.
One thing I know for sure is that I'm not disappointed.
The story really gripped me with its fantastical fairy/human world and its kick-a** heroine Feyre. All the other Fae weren't so bad, either. I liked Lucien quite a bit, he's a great sidekick.

I don't really know how to rate this book because the first 3/4 was just not good at all to me and then the last 1/4 was what I expected out of the whole book. I liked the romance in it because it wasn't quick and it wasn't gushy. I am going to re-read this one day because I just don't know if I was in the mood to read this book because I have read soooo much fantasy lately and I really wanted to like this book. ...more
