I read several reviews before reading this book and a lot of them said this series was Hunger Games meets The Bachelor. After reading this first book, I can see why that was said, but I don't agree wholly with the Hunger Game part of the comparison.

Yes, it is dystopian and there is a caste system, but the level of desperation in the Hunger Games is not felt here for America's family. Plus the highest level her, the monarchs, aren't greedy like that of Snow a

In a sentence: "The Bachelor" meets Hunger Games (with castes instead of districts), and, of course, there's a love triangle. (Although I must admit that I've never watched "The Bachelor".) I really wanted to like this book, but some of it was so simplistic that I couldn't rate it any higher. The notion of World War III and the involvement of China was just too much for me to take. Even when considering it's YA, I found it terribly written, full of illogicalities. Makes Twilight seem like a literary masterpiece...
Was supposed to be some light reading during the exam period that I am in right now, but it irritated me more than anything. Stupid, stupid characters, superficial and naive beyond comprehension. Even Christmas romcoms have more depth, I'm afraid.
