Update: Just read these again and still love them. Decided I would read most of the series with my boys. I have twin 12 yr olds and a 14 yr old, all boys, and you would think they might not like it but they loved it. When we go on camping trips I've started a kind of tradition to read a chapter of something each night. Oh, I loved this book! It was so beautifully written, and the wonderful illustrations by Garth Williams really brought it to life. It really should be required reading. In our recent technological age, we have lost the knowledge of how hard life was for all those that lived before us, and how each season brought its own set of toils and joys.
