I hate reviewing Shakespeare (as if I were qualified to criticize The Bard), but I have finished a third reading of Othello and no one gives us more to ponder and dissect than he does. I never read Shakespeare without saying to myself, “now how did I not see that before?”

So, I want to read all of Shakespeare’s stuff, but I think the tragedies are the ones I like the least. He has a particular formula for tragedies and comedies; lots of characters, lots of misunderstandings, lots of plotting, etc. For the comedy, everything gets resolved, the guy gets the girl, and everyone is happy. Of the five or six Shakespeare plays I have read so far, Othello was the most understandable, and therefore enjoyable, play I have read so far. I don’t know if it’s because I’m now more accustomed to Shakespeare’s English, or the theme was more engaging, but I could not put this one down.
