What Members Thought
For those lovers of Sherlock Holmes stories, this is a must read. I've been working my way through all of them when I realized I hadn't yet read this little gem. Seeing as it's almost Halloween, I thought it'd be a good time to read something spooky. Creepy and told beautifully, we once again fall in love with Holmes' deductive reasoning and arrogant persona. I've seen three movie portrayals of this story--one with Basil Rathbone, one with Christopher Lee, and one with Jeremy Brett-- and I still couldn't put this book down. What an intriguing tale!

This book was supposedly written after Conan Doyle was sick of writing Holmes' mysteries and perhaps this shows in his writing. While I enjoyed the read, I found that the writing effort almost seemed half-hearted and the plot average. I need to return to some earlier Holmes' mysteries for comparison to see if my judgement is fair. I want to give this book four stars but feel that I am only able to justly give it three.
