I devoured Sherlock Holmes when I was a kid. Loved everything about him and read all the stories. Either I have outgrown him over the years or I have simply read too many and seen too many to get that same thrill. Still, it is always fun to step into the familiar territory and watch him dissect a scene. The Hound is perhaps the best known, quintessential Sherlock mystery. It packs a bit of everything in - supernatural suspicions, ominous setting, eccentric characters, family heredity - you name it! It's interesting in that Holmes is absent for the majority of the novel and the reader is left with Dr Watson's account of things and his efforts at deduction. This book held me so captive I'm sad I didn't pick it up sooner. A perfect read for the fall season - spooky, atmospheric, introspective and full of action.
