What Members Thought
I know, I know. I am supposed to love this and appreciate its simplicity and its poetic qualities. But, I cannot tell a lie, and this just didn’t do anything for me at all. I wasn’t swept up into the language, I didn’t feel the setting, I didn’t like any of the characters, and I didn’t understand what motivated any of them. In short, it was all lost on me. The end felt abrupt and unsatisfying, which was no matter because I was glad to have it over and done.
Not sure why am I suffering through this.
Everyone talks in cryptic circles about "I-don't-know-what". If only I could understand what the hell are they on about.
And I don't who the hell thought that referring to everyone in third person pronouns was a good idea. There will be two or more women in a scene and then Shimamura (that god-awful protagonist, if he can be called that) would just wonder about one of the woman saying "She this, that, or whatever....". Which "she" my man? Which she??

«–¿No fue él el único que te despidió cuando te mandaron a Tokio? ¿No es su nombre el que figura en la primera página del primero de tus diarios? Y ahora que él llega a la última página del suyo, ¿no vas a despedirlo?
–No quiero hacerlo. No quiero verlo morir.
Shimamura no supo si esa respuesta reflejaba el más gélido o el más conmovedor de los sentimientos.»
