I looked forward to reading The Swiss family Robinson, probably from the influence of seeing the movie many years ago. The movie develops the characters, and tells a more personal story about the family. The book is like reading a lesson on various trees, plants, and animals.

The father in this story is telling his sons a story, and he inhabited his island with many animals, who could not be living on an island in the middle of the ocean. There are elephants, lions, leopards, hyenas, jackals, et ...more

This book was more of a tale about settlement and colonization then about survival. If you are looking for a book about survival from a shipwreck you should read In the Sargasso Sea A Novel by Thomas A Janvier (1898).
