Peter Pan is one of the children's books I've been wanting to read for the first time. With Disney's version of Peter Pan and Tinker Bell, the story sounded like it would be fun and magical. However, in Barrie's story, neither of those two characters are very likable. They are both self-centered and mean-spirited. This came up on my classic book podcast, making it my car book for this week. I was never much of Peter Pan fan, the Disney classic was never a favorite of mine, not have I had any interest in the more recent movie remakes/retellings of the tale. The audio recording left me cold. Perhaps it was just my lack of attention, but the story felt jumpy and disjointed. I had a desire to turn it off, but I also wanted to see how it ended - was it all going to be a dream? was Neverland a real dream land? ...more

A children's classic I couldn't believe I'd never read! This Peter is a much darker and more sinister version than my perceptions from popular culture but this gives the original story a different dimension. I very much enjoyed it in a melancholy kind of way. ...more
