I've never been a huge fan of Twain, but I do agree the man can write. It's just not necessarily my kind of story. This was no exception. I didn't really care for the story line, old timers who like to bet aren't really my thing, but Twain just has a way of drawing you into a story and gets you all caught up in its characters. The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County was a wonderful reminder of why I enjoyed Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn. Twain's writing is so filled with imagery. The language, the descriptions, and the characters are rich and unique. It is impossible to read his works without being transported back in time.
