For some reason I had difficulty getting through this book. This is surprising as it has elements of drama and thrill. Yet Condrad's meandering prose tends to detract from the forward advance of the story. It sounds like an elderly person who smoked a bowl of pot were telling the story. At times there was true brilliance. Others, describing the superfluous. He described the superfluous beautifully, but it was altogether unnecessary.
