Meh.

I understand that when this was written it was the exciting, suspenseful, story of the day, but I'm just not sure it holds up today. My kids (12 yr old and twin 9 yr olds) didn't like it at all, and I'm not sure I blame them. I'm already not a huge fan of science fiction but am willing to give it a try if it gets high praise or is deemed a classic. I don’t know if Verne was a ichthyologist or studied cetaceans before he wrote this novel or if he spent an exorbitant amount of time studying zoophytes and aquatic genus but yikes. This book was full of names of different species of fish, coral, whales and every other sea creature imaginable. I felt it was less like a adventure with Captain Nemo and more like a science book.
