Here is another charming, sweet, intelligent children's book that I have failed to read until well into my adulthood. What a shame. I think I would have loved this one even more than I do now. Heidi is spunky, lively, smart and brought life to everyone around her. The book is so full of positive messages that the reader cannot help but feel good when reading it. A beautiful hard cover copy of this would be a wonderful gift for a young girl. ...more

I read this a million times growing up. I liked the food....

Edit on reread this year:

God what a pleasant vacation. I highly recommend revisiting books you loved as a child as an adult and giving yourself that luxury often. Why not remind yourself of the characters you wanted to become, the lessons you learned growing up? Why not remind yourself of the parts of the world you thought would be great? Why not remind yourself of the things you thought you might live for?

This was one of my Mom's favorite books, one that she read over and over, because she only had 4 or 5 books as a child. I don't think I had ever read the original English version, and I was delighted with it. I do plan on reading more of her books.
