Great Expectations by Charles Dickens is a wonderful story with many characters rich in diversity and complexity. From our lowly poor Pip who comes into money, to the quintessential tease, Estella, to the jilted bride Miss Havisham, and many others. Romance, love, betrayal, murder, and suspense are just a few of the aspects of this story, but are not even needed to draw you in. I thoroughly enjoyed this book! I had read it in high school, but I honestly don't remember anything about it other than Miss Havisham and the wedding cake. LOL. I'm so glad I decided to re-read it. Dickens is so adept at creating atmosphere and creating such wonderful three-dimensional characters. I loved the unpredictability of the plot, and the development of Pip's character. He was such a product of 19th century industrialized England.
