This is an example of brilliant writing. While it is technically a children's or young adult book, it is not dumbed down- neither in content nor language- and is enjoyable even for an adult reader. As a children's book, it is an instructive yet entertaining coming of age story, with good examples of children who make honest mistakes and learn from them, learn about friendship and responsibility, and who are taught their individual importance to society and family, all while still acting like chi ...more

Charming, silly, romantically whimsical, and all of the things I grew up loving in stories. Anne is exactly the heroine every little girl needs: bold, fiery, loyal, feminine, and a dreamer of big and little and silly and deep and absurd things - in all the best ways
