On reading Wuthering Heights for a third time. I truly believe it is a classic. My experience with this novel was more enjoyable this time because it was part of a group read. I first read this novel while I was very young and in the midst of my first love. I fancied him my Heathcliff and I fancied this book a romance. Now Thirty years later on my first reread, I half laugh at myself. The book has a romance in it, the type of romance that is selfish and unrealistic. The main theme , of course, is revenge (which I love) but the writing and the actions of the characters seem ridiculous to me. Wuthering Heights is a gothic novel which tells the story of Catherine Earnshaw and her passionate relationship with Heathcliff. While this may sound like your ordinary love story of doomed, starcrossed lovers, it is not. This novel has so many more layers to it, and it's worth reading the book as often as needed to explore all those layers thoroughly.
