It's been quite a while since I read the first Miss Peregrine book, but I soon found myself being swept up in this the second story. Similarly reminiscent of Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events, this book is full of adventures, twists and turns, perils and danger and murders, and of course a weird assortment of bizarre and zany characters. I'm looking forward to the third and final book!!

I liked this book quite a bit more than I liked the first book in the series. The first book felt like a creative writing exercise where a box of photos was used to drive the stories. Here, the narrative was driving and the photos felt selected to accompany it rather than the other way around. (Note: the author confirms that this is true in an interview with him that I read.)

I admit I'm not completely done, but I'm close. My Goodreads goal was 20 books this year, and I'm at 19, but I figure I got close enough. This book is annoying me a little because it felt like at times the story was written around the cool yard sale photos that the author includes, but it's still a fun story--not as good as the first one but still a legit sequel.

A 12 hour round trip to Virginia and back was a good excuse for an audio book and this was a great pick for a husband who has only seen the movie version of book 1 as well as my 9 and 14 year old children. The 9 year old loved it, the 14 year old tuned it out and I was happy to re visit this story before continuing with the third book. I love this series!

I did not feel like this story was as strong. The events seemed more like they were written to the photos than the first one, and by feeling that way, the story really didn't seem tight. The photos were also fewer and further between, I felt, and I got antsy to see one during the slowest parts. Finally, although we got a great look into the Particulars and their world, I actually saw far more plot holes and unanswered questions, which kind of frustrated me in the moment.
