“The only way to learn is to live.”

Matt Haig’s The Midnight Library takes place in the time between life and death. A library, complete with its’ own librarian is the setting for the story. Nora is given the opportunity to live different versions of her life resulting in her slowly releasing her regrets.

My feelings were a little mixed on this story but overall I enjoyed it and am glad to have read it. Perhaps it was the cynic in me that struggled with the whole dream big idea. With that said th

“Every life contains many millions of decisions. Some big, some small. But every time one decision is taken over another, the outcomes differ. An irreversible variation occurs, which in turn leads to further variations ...”

I enjoyed this book immensely which was a surprise to me. Not my typical read. Truly makes you reflect on your life’s decisions, past and present. Who would be in your library?

This is not the book for me. The premise is great, but this is basically a cheesy self help book passing trite platitudes off as storytelling.

It reminded me a little bit of Butterfly Effect or Sliding Doors- exploring the what if’s in our lives and seeing what would our lives look like if we could tackle our regrets and make a different decision in our lives. While addressing deep complex issues like depression and suicide can not be merely simplified to just facing our regrets, I did find myself relating to the overall concepts of the book. There have definitely been moments in my life when I wonder how my life would be different if ...more
