What Members Thought
Interesting backstory. Probably more rewarding for a superfan than it was for me (who has yet to see the show). The balance of how the show came to be and came into its own, with how the show has been received and affected audiences, made for a rewarding read. I respect the play and admire its creator far more now than I had ever expected to.

If you are as obsessed with "Hamilton," as I am - you will dive into this book like Alexander dove into Maria Reynolds bodice. I LOVE this book. Lin Manuel gives us all the great insider information on EVERYTHING - the songs, , the lyrics, the inspiration, the actors, even the set design. If you weren't able to see the original cast on Broadway (and really, who was?! those lucky bastards) this is the next best thing. I could and will re-read this many times.
I listened to the sound track as I read. What a wonderful way to experience this play, which I have never seen. Lin-Manuel Miranda is genius...also surrounds himself with (or attracts) brilliant creative people. I've read maybe one or two scripts...Should begin reading this more...although the experience of reading and listening to this gem may be a rare experience.

As someone who will probably not get to see the play for a long night time, I really enjoyed this close up look at it. I also liked learning more about the creative process of creating the show and a lot of the deliberate thought that went into creating the characters and songs. I highly recommend this to anyone interested in Hamilton.

The book reveals more of the musical for those who haven't seen it, which is a real treat. Furthermore, it provides the inspiration for some of the numbers. It isn't just historical references from Ron Chernow's biography, but also hip-hop from the past twenty years. ...more
