I heard many good things about this book, which prompted me to purchase it. While I can see what everyone liked about it, there were also times I had difficulty getting through it. It is written with a lot of descriptive similes and metaphors and a lot of little flashback scenes that break up a scene from the present. It's a certain kind of hell, confessing your most humiliating sexual secrets to a room full of hairy middle-aged men.
I just couldn't get into this.
I get that it's a parody, and maybe if I lived in Manhattan and worked in publishing and cared about superficial appearances, I would find it interesting. But I don't, and I don't and I don't, so I don't.

Honestly? I hated this book almost from the beginning. This is the first book I've ever started and not finished on purpose. Hell, I had to create a DNF shelf!
I thought the characters were one-dimensional and I thought Ani was a raging bitch from hell the entire time. Her younger self wasn't that bad at first, but I just wanted to wring her neck and tell her to grow a backbone!
Don't regret not finishing this one. Probably will think twice about anything from Knoll in the future. ...more
