I heard many good things about this book, which prompted me to purchase it. While I can see what everyone liked about it, there were also times I had difficulty getting through it. It is written with a lot of descriptive similes and metaphors and a lot of little flashback scenes that break up a scene from the present. (This is different from the scenes that are intended as flashbacks.) I liked the parts about her experience in high school and I could definitely relate to her desire to redeem her ...more

I just couldn't get into this.

I get that it's a parody, and maybe if I lived in Manhattan and worked in publishing and cared about superficial appearances, I would find it interesting. But I don't, and I don't and I don't, so I don't.

I liked this so much more than I expected to! I had started it last year when it first came out and was turned off by the narrator and gave up after a few pages. This time I gave her more of a chance and grew to really love/hate her (in the best possible way!). There was lots of product name dropping, which I love, and the story went someplace I totally wasn't expecting. I was hoping for a bigger twist that never came, so four stars instead of five. I began this as an audio book and practically cried when it was returned with about 25% to go... I was enraptured. I finished a few weeks later in a regular book, and perhaps something got lost along the way. there were moments that didn't make sense, but overall I enjoyed this one. ...more
