What Members Thought
The first 2/3 or so were great...yes, I thought he was spending an awful long time covering one semester, but I like reading about his studies. I know, I'm a nerd.
The last 300 pages were rough going for me. I was bored. Kvothe's adventures trying to find the bandits and his time with the Adem was brutally slow. Sure there were glimpses into the secrets of the Amyr and the Chandrian, but not nearly enough.
I would have been left with a mighty bad taste in my mouth if it had ended with the Adem. ...more

I listened to this book as I walked and did housework and it took me into a completely different world. This world is somewhat medieval-feeling since there is no electricity or gas-powered vehicles. Going from one place to another requires horses, wagons or just walking. Women wear gowns and men, cloaks. Kvothe, the main character of the story, who is now an innkeeper is telling his life stories to a scribe between customers who come in for a drink or a meal. And what stories he has to tell! The

There were definitely slow parts that almost lost me. The first part is so hard to read. Kvothe is so obnoxiously arrogant and the story didn't seem to be going anywhere, until finally, he did go somewhere and the story got a lot more interesting. I still feel like there are missing pieces being annoyingly kept from me, like why is Bast so upset in this book and where is this story going? but I look forward to the next book.
