I'm really glad that I took the time to reread this book. I found there was a lot that I didn't remember and a lot that I did, but that was interesting to read for a second time. This author has tackled a few incredibly difficult subjects- incest, inbreeding, and transgender, and turned them into an amazing novel that really makes you think about any prior prejudices you might have, no matter how unintentional. Shelves: audiobook

FABULOUS audiobook! The narrator is really, really good. I thought that the way the book is told lent itself particularly well to an audiobook.

The actual story was really intriguing. I enjoyed all the back story and I did feel that it helped me understand the main character's identity and identity struggle better. I would highly recommend this to anyone. ...more

What I liked about this book: at places, Cal's narration seemed very realistic, i.e. when he used film terminology. Everything after about page 350, when I stopped calculating how many pages I had to read a day to finish by book club meeting.
